Floor plans

A floor plan is an interactive map of your grounds — clubhouse, hall, festival or tournament site. Visitors see buildings, areas and markers with click-to-open info (title, description, image, link) and can orient themselves on site or from home. Floor plans are a Pro feature.

In the dashboard under Site Management → Floor plans. Clicking New floor plan creates an empty plan and opens it straight in the editor. The list shows each plan’s status (Draft / Published) and last-updated date.

The toolbar sits on the left of the editor:

  • Select — click elements, move them, drag the handles to resize.
  • Type (Building / Area / Element) sets what a newly drawn shape counts as — among other things this controls whether it’s extruded in the 3D view (building/element) or flat (area).
  • Shapes — rectangle, ellipse, polygon (click for each point, double-click to finish).
  • Marker — two roles, point (pin, e.g. kiosk, restrooms) and signpost, plus a choice of icons.
  • Street — see Drawing streets below.
  • Text — free-standing label with no shape.
  • Background image — fit an image (e.g. an overview photo or a technical floor plan), with opacity, fit (contain/cover), offset and scale.
  • Undo / Redo, and autosave while you edit.

Levels: use the tabs above the canvas to add further levels (e.g. ground floor, upper floor, grandstand) — double-click a tab to rename it.

Selecting an element opens its properties on the right: colour (fill, outline, label colour — see Colour presets), opacity, height, base elevation, pattern (hatched), label and an optional second line, plus the info popup (title, description, image, link) visitors see when they click it. For flat areas, order (bring forward/back) decides which area covers another — for extruded buildings, their position on the plan decides what’s in front in the 3D view instead (this follows from the geometry: a position can’t be both nearer and farther away than another at the same time).

2D/3D preview: the toggle at the top right shows the plan either flat (the drawing view) or as a real 3D preview — exactly the image that later appears on your website. Some settings (stack height, tilt, font, start angle, start zoom, streets) only show their effect in the 3D view — see the notes below.

Save, publish, preview: the editor saves automatically as you edit; Publish makes the plan visible to visitors.

For a shape’s fill, outline and label colour, you’ll find a row of eight suggested colours next to the free colour picker — a matched set. Clicking one sets the colour directly; the free picker next to it stays available any time none of the eight fits.

With an area or a marker selected, the properties panel shows a search field over your partners (name and slug) right next to the existing info popup. Picking one sets the assignment; a dedicated button removes it again. You create and manage partners themselves under Engagement → Partners — if the partner you’re looking for isn’t in the list, a link jumps straight there; the plan is saved automatically first, so no drawing work is lost.

Once assigned, the partner appears with its logo and short text on the roof of that shape (visible in the 3D preview), and clicking it opens the partner card for visitors, linking to its own detail page, instead of the info popup. An element with no assigned partner keeps showing its ordinary info popup, if one is set — a partner and an info popup are mutually exclusive per element.

If a plan has more than one level, you can set a stack height per level (0–2000): how high that level floats above the one below it. 0 means no stack — both levels then sit visually on top of each other instead of offset. In the 3D preview, the level underneath appears dimmed.

On a plan with only one level, you won’t see this slider — that’s not a bug: with only one level there is nothing for it to float above, so the value could never change anything visible. As soon as you add a second level, the slider appears.

Two settings that apply to the whole plan (you’ll find them, when nothing is selected, above the background image settings):

  • Tilt — the 3D view’s camera angle, as a slider.
  • Font — one of four fonts for every label in the plan (roofs, street names, markers). As long as you don’t pick one here, the plan keeps using your website’s font — that only changes once you deliberately choose one of the four fonts. A dedicated “website font” button resets the choice again if needed.

Alongside tilt and font, this is where you set the start angle and start zoom — the view visitors first see your floor plan at. Both sliders sit right next to tilt and font, above the background image settings. Why this is worth doing at all: in a 3D view, a building in front always hides the one behind it — the start angle is how you decide which side of your grounds visitors see first.

Why dragging these sliders appears to do nothing in the drawing view: the start angle and start zoom only take effect in the 3D preview (and later on the published page) — not in the flat drawing mode. That’s not a bug: the drawing mode deliberately stays unrotated, because drawing and dragging in a turning view would be barely usable. Switch to the 3D preview to see what the slider actually does.

A start zoom above 1× can crop part of the plan — the editor shows you a warning when it does. Visitors can pan the view, but only by half a plan width: at a high start zoom that no longer reaches the cropped edge. They only get the whole plan back by zooming out themselves or by resetting the view (see Turning and zooming on your website below), so check the 3D preview before you save.

A plan you’ve never touched these two sliders on keeps behaving exactly as before — without a stored start angle it renders unchanged and unrotated.

A floor plan can show a legend — a small overview next to or below the plan. You’ll find the settings for it in the same place as tilt, font, start angle and start zoom (nothing selected, above the background image settings):

  • Show/hide and a freely editable title (default: “Legend”).
  • Mode:
    • Off — no legend appears, even if “Show” is on.
    • Icons — the existing view: a list of the marker icons used in the plan.
    • Partners — the partners assigned to an area or marker on the level currently shown, with logo, name and type, each linking to their detail page. Not every partner of the organization and not other levels’ — the directory widget in the page editor does that.
    • Both — icons and partners together.

A plan whose legend you’ve never touched keeps showing exactly what it always has — a visible legend with the icon list.

Normally a marker appears as a pin inside the drawn plan. You can instead mark it as “outside” and pick a direction (up/down/left/right) — on the published page it then appears not as a pin but as an edge hint with title, subtitle, icon and arrow (for example “Parking, 200 m →”) — useful for places that matter but aren’t part of the actual plan, like a remote parking lot or the nearest bus stop.

To place such a marker, simply drag it in the editor past the edge of the canvas — the canvas automatically enlarges so the marker stays visible and clickable instead of being cut off at the edge.

The street tool draws a street with a name and width:

  1. Pick the Street tool.
  2. Click to set points along the route.
  3. Enter or double-click finishes the street; Escape abandons drawing without saving.
  4. With it selected, set name and width (4–200) in the properties panel.

Limits: at most 12 streets per plan and at most 64 points per street. If you reach either, the editor tells you directly — the extra points or the next street aren’t silently dropped.

Why a street looks different while you draw it than later on the website: in the flat drawing view, the editor shows a street as a plain line at its real width. The 3D preview (and the published page) instead draws the finished picture — a street with a kerb on each side and its name. Use the 2D/3D toggle to see the result while you draw.

A floor plan doesn’t appear on your website by itself — you embed it:

  • As a widget: in the page editor, add the floor plan widget and enter the plan’s slug (shown under its name in the floor plan list, e.g. mall). A leading or trailing slash (/mall) is stripped automatically — you don’t have to type the slug exactly.
  • Link it to an event: on the event page, pick an existing plan under Floor plan and either Link (the event shows the original — changes to the plan apply everywhere it’s linked) or Customize (the event gets its own, independent copy to edit, e.g. to draw extra stalls for a single tournament).

If the slug is wrong (typo, or a deleted/unpublished plan), the public page deliberately shows nothing at that spot — visitors don’t see a broken placeholder. So you still notice: the preview in the page editor checks the slug live and shows you a note there, including the slug it tried.

In a 3D view, a building in front always hides the one behind it — turning is the only way to look behind it. That’s why a published floor plan isn’t just a picture: visitors can freely turn and zoom it to see your grounds from any angle.

  • Dragging turns the plan sideways; holding Shift while dragging pans it instead. On a phone, swiping sideways turns it.
  • Ctrl (or ⌘) + mouse wheel zooms. A plain mouse wheel deliberately does not zoom — it keeps scrolling the page as normal, so the plan never traps you while you scroll past it. On a Mac, the two-finger trackpad pinch now zooms it too.
  • On a phone: pinching with two fingers zooms. Once zoomed in, a single finger slides the plan around; swiping sideways still turns it.
  • By keyboard: left / right arrow turn, Shift + arrow keys slide, +/ zoom, 0 resets the view. Up and down arrow deliberately stay the page’s — they keep scrolling as everywhere else.
  • As soon as you’ve changed anything, a visible reset control appears.
  • Two things change on every published plan, including one you have never configured: text inside the plan can no longer be selected with the mouse (otherwise turning it would drag a text selection across the labels), and the browser’s own pinch-to-zoom-the-page no longer applies over the plan — there the plan’s own zoom takes over. Everywhere outside the plan both are unchanged.

None of this is saved: reloading the page returns to exactly the start angle and start zoom stored in the editor (see Start angle and start zoom above). Labels, street names and roof sponsor logos stay upright throughout, no matter how far the plan is turned — a logo is never left upside down.
